REALLY TRYING TO FALL IN LOVE WITH ZED

2 MIN

I’m really, really trying to fall in love with Zed. I’ve been trying to use it for weeks and weeks. I liked how fast it is compared to VS Code. I liked the minimalistic experience. Competition is always good and other than the agentic capabilities of the Cursors, Windsurfs, etc. of the world, it’s always VS-Code based editors. This one feels fresh, daring.

I do not know if I need to keep using it it. Force me to use it, but I’m too familiar to VS-Code like editors. I really like Cursor. So I feel friction even when there is none.

The biggest friction is how Zed manages the coding agents. I use Claude Code, and the UI does not feel right. Something feels off but I cannot say what. The only thing I know for sure is the Question tools. The way they are presented is confusing and not user-friendly. But other than that I don’t know why I disliked that experience so much. The editor is fine. The file explorer is fine. The diff view is fine. The speed is awesome. The managing of agents and the coding agent chat panel are the parts of the UI where I struggle the most, and those are the parts of the UI where I spent most of the time on.

I’ll keep trying and I’ll see how this goes.
